If you are suffering from low self-esteem, you can use EMDR Therapy to become more confident. Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) can vastly improve your sense of self-worth and help give you the confidence you are looking for.  Low self-esteem stems from all sorts of adverse life effects that include emotional, physical or sexual abuse, abandonment, neglect, criticism, teasing, bullying.  A lack of confidence can manifest due to a general lack of support around a childhood issue.

EMDR therapy to become more confidentA feeling of being abandoned, neglected or dismissed can create a pattern of inner criticism, a barrier to feeling confident and secure.  Shaming in childhood from peers, parents and those in positions of authority can all contribute to low self-esteem.

Distressing experiences commonly have the potential to create a belief system that leads to a sense of defectiveness, worthlessness, and a lack of safety.  EMDR clears the impact of the negative messages caused by these traumas and distressing memories. In fact, EMDR is one of the most powerful tools available for repairing self-esteem.

Confidence can affect all areas of life and without it you are merely living in the shadow of your true self.  It has the power to determine the choice of person you choose to have a relationship with, the type of job you believe you are capable of doing and the general ability to perform in all areas of your life.

It is possible to create healthy self-esteem using EMDR by focusing on the attachment needs of love, nurture, affection, support, safety, and guidance.  This is all possible by firstly targeting distressing memories and desensitising the negative beliefs attached to these incidents. These beliefs are habitual negative downloads that need to be processed before any changes can be made.  The next step in EMDR is to install adaptive beliefs for the client that reflect these positive emotions.  Acceptance, compassion and appreciation of one’s worth are all achievable once the negative downloads are processed.

EMDR is a non-talk therapy that works using bilateral (backward and forward) eye movements to process repressed memories and traumas, the result being, the identified memories lose their emotional attachment and one is then able to build a positive self-image.
